Life on the farm
Part of the Family
“Until one has loved an animal, a part of one’s soul remains unawakened” -Anatole France
All of our animals are special to us. We have an array of animals that all contribute to the farm. None of the animals at Taveli Ranch are raised for consumption, however we do utilize the gifts that they give us, such as delicious fresh eggs, or milk. They also provide such joy, like watching kids (baby goats) jump around and play. Currently we have horses, goats, sheep, chickens, turkeys, and ducks, along with the rest of the domesticated animals like a cat and dogs, including 2 sassy parakeets.
Their Place on the Farm
Livestock plays a special role in agriculture, as each animal has an instinctive trait that makes them beneficial to the land. Some people who do not understand agriculture think that animals are the problem of things like climate change, however that couldn’t be further from the truth. Only when the balance has been disrupted, such as single processing operations, will it ever become a problem. As long as animal keeping stays within balance, they can be incredibly beneficial. For example, our horses do much more than riding for enjoyment. Horses offer many benefits, like seeking solace in the gentle gaze in their eyes, and their waste can be turned into compost, which is necessary for plants to survive.
